Gold is priced per troy ounce of pure metal, so the price of a gram of anything you can actually hold depends on its karat: how much of that gram is gold. The table below does that conversion for every common karat at the live spot price, per gram, per pennyweight and per troy ounce.

What is the price of gold per gram today?
Pure (24k) gold is $137.92 a gram at the current spot price of $4,289.80 a troy ounce — the ounce price divided by 31.1035, the number of grams in a troy ounce. Jewellery is priced lower per gram because it is not pure: 14k is $80.45 and 18k is $103.44.
How much is 1 oz of gold worth?
One troy ounce of pure gold is worth $4,289.80 at today's spot. One ounce weighed on a kitchen scale is a different, smaller unit — 28.35 grams against 31.10 — so an ounce of pure gold by kitchen scale is $3,909.97, and an ounce of 14k jewellery is $2,280.69.
What is the difference between a troy ounce and an ounce?
A troy ounce is 31.1035 grams and is the unit every gold and silver price is quoted in. The ordinary (avoirdupois) ounce on a kitchen or postal scale is 28.3495 grams, about 9% lighter. A pennyweight, common in the jewellery trade, is 1/20 of a troy ounce — 1.555 grams. Convert to grams before comparing any two prices and the confusion goes away.
How do I work out what my gold is worth?
Weigh it in grams, find its karat stamp, and multiply the weight by that karat's per-gram price in the table. Ten grams of 14k is 10 × $80.45 = $804.49 in melt value. That is the ceiling for any offer, not the offer itself.
